Assignment & Portfolio Submission: Coaching Employeesent & Portfolio Submission: Coaching Employees

Consider the following scenario:

You were very pleased with your decision to select Mala during your last recruitment initiative. Just out of college, Mala has the enthusiasm and professional drive that could benefit your health care organization. However, you recognize that Mala will have a lot to learn in a clinical setting. As a nurse manager, you have led many successful group trainings, but have far less experience coaching employees one-on-one. You wonder how you should approach this relationship and what steps you should take to increase the positivity and effectiveness of this experience.

Coaching is an ongoing process that is an integral function of the management role. It focuses on the development needs of the employee and is built on a relationship of trust between the leader and follower. Coaching is a powerful activity that demonstrates value of and respect for the employee. In this Assignment, you examine how you could serve as a coach to facilitate an individual’s professional development.

To prepare

Reflect on the information shared in the article, “Coaching Nurses: A Real Example of a Real Difference.” Which of these best practices might you use to strengthen your own coaching skills?

Review Chapter 7, “Coaching and Developing Others” in the course text, From Management to Leadership: Strategies for Transforming Health Care. Consider how the author compares coaching staff in a health care setting to coaching athletes, directing a movie, and conducting a symphony. Then, examine the six steps of the coaching process. How does each of the coaching steps build upon one another to create a positive and effective coaching experience?

In preparation for this hypothetical coaching exercise, identify one individual, staff member, or employee (from your current organization or a past setting) who could benefit from coaching. Create a pseudonym for him or her.

Use the six-step coaching process to develop a coaching and development plan.

Note: This assignment also serves as your portfolio submission.

Discussion 6A

Improving the quality of health care delivery and patient safety continues to be a political concern and has been at the heart of reform issues for many years. The American Nurses Association (ANA) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) have increased awareness of health care quality and safety issues, as well as advocated for health care reform. The documents featured at the ANA and IOM websites listed in this week’s Learning Resources focus on many of the current issues surrounding quality and safety in the health care industry.

To prepare:

Review this week’s Learning Resources, focusing on the Six Aims for Improvement presented in the landmark report “Crossing the Quality Chasm: The IOM Health Care Quality Initiative.”

Consider these six aims with regard to your current organization, or one with which you are familiar. In what areas have you seen improvement? What areas still present challenges? As a nurse leader, how can you contribute to improving the organization’s achievement of these aims?

Select one specific quality or safety issue that is presenting a challenge in the organization. Consider at least one quality improvement strategy that could be used to address the issue, as well as which of the six aims for improvement would then be addressed.

Reflect on your professional practice and your experiences with inter-professional collaboration to improve quality and safety. How has inter-professional collaboration contributed to your organization’s efforts to realize the IOM’s six aims for improving health care? Where has inter-professional collaboration been lacking?

Post a description of the quality or safety issue you selected and a brief summary of the impact that this issue has on health care delivery. Describe at least one quality improvement strategy used to address this issue. Then explain which of the six “aims for improvement” are addressed by the strategy. Finally, explain how inter-professional collaboration helps improve quality in this area.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

NSG 6101

For this discussion, you are asked to review the student learning outcomes for this course and discuss how you met these outcomes. The intention here is to provide you an opportunity to “reflect” on the learning achieved during this term and how you successfully met these learning outcomes. If you do not feel you successfully met the objective, discuss your plans to successfully complete the objective in the future.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

Critically analyze current practice to formulate researchable problems.

Evaluate research as the basis for decision-making to improve outcomes through translation into evidence-based practice.

Synthesize an understanding of the research process through development of a proposal to address a nursing problem or focus area identified in nursing practice.

Investigate ethical issues related to the conduct of scientific research, including informed consent, data management, data analysis, and protection of human subjects.

Explore national and international initiatives and research priorities.

____________This is a communication part that the professor posted for our information. i will put it here so it might help you for this paper.

This week you will finalize and submit the research proposal. We also will review the importance of an evidence-based practice for the nurse in an advanced role and examine your success in meeting course objectives. As you reflect on the course objectives and the roots and application of research to practice consider your future role and how these concepts will apply to your practice. Understanding the elements of research will develop your skills in critiquing the research and translating it to clinical practice to improve clinical, educational, policy, and organizational outcomes.

As the last and final step in the research process, sharing the results of your research with your colleagues and the nursing community expands the practice knowledge on the selected topic. The three Ps offer the most common approaches to dissemination: publications, presentations, and posters.

The reflection question provides the opportunity to evaluate and reflect on the course outcomes.

This course has built on your research knowledge and you have learned advanced research concepts to assist in developing an evidence-based practice. In addition, you had the opportunity to develop a novel research proposal specific to your role specialization that includes an intervention appropriate to nursing practice. During this course you learned the systematic process of problem solving and the manner in which nursing research validates and establishes an evidence-based practice.

Technology and Cost Containment

In response to continually rising health care costs, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) provision was created to promote the meaningful use of health care information technology through numerous incentive programs for health care providers. By enhancing data collection, streamlining electronic medical records, and increasing transparency, it is believed that significant cost savings can be realized as well as other positive outcomes. What are some of the tradeoffs involved in this type of policy?

To prepare:

Reflect on the challenges of containing health care costs in the U.S. presented in the Learning Resources and discussed by Dr. Kominski and Dr. Zelman in the media.

Consider how information technology may be used to address health care issues related to cost.

Examine the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) provision and its goals.

By tomorrow 03/272018 12 pm, write a minimum of 550 words in APA format with at least 3 scholarly references from the list of required readings below. Include the level one headings as numbered below”

Post a cohesive response that addresses the following:

1) Briefly summarize a significant challenge to containing health care costs.

2) How do policy makers envision technology could be utilized to address this challenge (above)? Provide at least one example to support your response.

3) Do you agree or disagree with the policy makers? Describe why you agree or disagree and include one or more insights from this analysis that relate to the question of how information technology could, or could not, help contain costs while supporting health care reform initiatives.

Nursing The Selection Process Paper

The Selection Process

The process involved with selecting the “right” employee will differ depending on the requirements of the job. In addition, the culture and expectations of an organization will have great impact on the structure of the selection process. Where one health care setting might require applicants to participate in group interviews, another might use personality tests. In addition, the qualities for which interviewers look might also vary, ranging from a personality focus to a skills focus.

In this Assignment, you investigate the selection process that is used in a health care organization with which you are familiar. You also identify the expectations of both human resources and the nurse manager in terms of selection.

To prepare

Review Chapter 6, “Selecting New Employees” in the course text, Human Resource Management: Functions, Applications, Skill Development, to examine the various selection processes health care settings and other organizations may employ. In addition, reflect upon the three types of “fit” nurse managers should take into consideration when selecting new employees.

Identify a position that is open or has recently been filled in your organization.

Using what you know about the position, the culture and expectations of the organization, your own hiring and selection experiences, and this week’s readings, investigate the following:

Identify the selection steps that have been or will be taken, as well as the members involved. For example, which steps did human resources complete? In which steps did the nursing manager engage?

Identify the skills, educational and work background, and “fit” required for this position. How do these align with the advertised job description?

Identify any problems or areas that could be improved in your organization’s current selection process. If you were the nurse manager, how would you modify this process?

Note: If possible, you may also choose to discuss these ideas with an HR professional or nurse manager in your organization.

To complete

Submit a 3- to 5-page paper in which you do the following:

Briefly describe the selection process used in your setting.

Identify the team members involved in conducting each step. For example, explain which steps HR performs and which steps managers perform.

Explain how effective you believe the current system is.

Briefly describe any problems (e.g., rushing, stereotyping, “like me” syndrome, halo and horn effect, premature selection) your setting has experienced with this current selection system (if applicable).

Explain how you would modify the process and why.

Identify the job title for the open or recently filled position.

Describe the skills and background a desirable applicant would have.

Describe the type of “fit” that would make this applicant the “right” person for this specific job.

Compare the job description with the expectations of the position.

Explain whether or not the job description aligns with the skills, background, and “fit” needed to excel in this position.

Explain the specific attributes or characteristics you, as the nurse manager responsible for selecting a candidate for the position, might seek that are not specifically outlined in the job description. Describe how you could you elicit this information during an interview.

This article discusses the process of hiring to fill a nursing position, with a focus on Baton Rouge General Medical Center (BRGMC). At BRGMC, the interview process has one new addition: behavioral screenings for potential RNs. With this new aspect, interviewees are screened for behavior in clinical practice scenarios, equipment recognition, and skills demonstration.
