Assignment 3: Final Project: Options Paper

This week, you will describe the range of options that are available to address the problem. Defining a core list of reasonable options is a critically important part of the process of developing a solution to a problem.

(Impact of Lead Exposure)
For this assignment:
Review a reputable source of information on developing options and resolving conflicts when solving problems.
Study the range of options that have previously been proposed or tested for solving your chosen environmental health problem. Create additional potential options based on your own judgment and knowledge. Identify potential advantages and disadvantages of each option.
Write a 3- to 4-page options paper in a Microsoft Word document addressing the following:
State the 2- to 3-sentence problem statement you submitted in Week 2.
Briefly introduce the topic of generating options when solving a problem. Describe a formal method by which the advantages and disadvantages of potential options can be evaluated by stakeholder groups to rank the potential options and to resolve conflicts when ranking options.
Describe and analyze several options to address the problem (options). Include solutions for populations with disparities, if applicable.
Limit your consideration to three to four major options. Briefly describe each option and the main advantages and disadvantages of each major option for solving the problem, including:
The likely effectiveness of the proposed solution
Costs in terms of dollars as well as effort and other resources (the exact costs are not needed but options should be described in semiquantitative terms ranging from “very expensive” to “relatively inexpensive” or ranging from “most expensive” to “least expensive”)
Time required for the option to bring about the desired result
Stakeholder issues (limit this section to the key stakeholder groups you identified in your Week 4 landscape paper. Discuss your three to four proposed options with regard to acceptability to certain stakeholders, lack of acceptability to other stakeholders, and common ground for all stakeholders)
Potential unforeseen consequences of the proposed solution or difficulties in implementing the solution
Summarize your three to four chosen options in a table with one row for each option and with the column names as:
Name of option
Main advantages of option
Main disadvantages of option

Discussion Question 1

Once a disease is thought to be caused by an infectious agent, a range of epidemiological techniques is used to determine the extent of transmission in a population and to find the most appropriate and responsive measures to control further transmission.
As a newly trained Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officer, you are asked to develop a project to detect and control an outbreak of an infectious disease.
Identify an infectious disease that can be detected and controlled through screening. Describe how screening influences and enhances outbreak detection as well as control and prevention. Discuss how and where you would implement a screening initiative and who would be the core or target population.
Justify your response using examples and reasoning. Comment on the postings of at least two classmates, explaining whether you agree or disagree with their views.
Evaluation Criteria:
Provided one example of an infectious disease.
Described how screening is used for the detection and control of outbreaks.
Discussed how and where a screening initiative would be implemented and who would be the core population.
Justified answers with appropriate research and reasoning by using examples and references from textbooks, the South University Online Library, and other acceptable references, citing the sources in APA format.
Commented on the postings of at least two classmates by asking questions, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging a point of the discussion, or making a relationship between two or more points.

Health Information Patient Handout

Assignment: Health Information Patient Handout

One of the pivotal goals of consumer health literacy efforts is to design educational materials that attract as well as educate users. In this Assignment, you design a health information document on a topic that is of interest to you.

To prepare:

  • Select a health issue of interest to you.
  • Identify the audience or population that you seek to educate about this issue.
  • Search the Internet to find credible sites containing information about your selected topic.
  • Review the two health literacy websites listed in this week’s Learning Resources. Focus on strategies for presenting information.

To complete:

  • Design an educational handout on the health issue you selected.
    • Include a cover page.
    • Include an introduction that provides:
      • An explanation of your issue and why you selected it
      • A description of the audience you are addressing
    • In the handout itself:
      • Develop your handout in such a way that it attracts the attention of the intended audience.
      • Include a description of the health issue and additional content that will enhance your message (i.e., key terms and definitions, graphics, illustrations, etc.).
      • Recommend four or five sites that provide clear, valuable, and reliable information on the topic.

Note: Remember to keep the information in your health handout and its design at the appropriate level for the audience you are seeking to inform. Submit your Assignment as a Word document.

This week we will discuss the security of health care records and the protection of patient privacy. You will analyze the nurse’s responsibility to protect patient information and the extent that Health IT has made it easier or more difficult to protect patient privacy. You will comment on any security or ethical issues related to the use of portable devices to store information. You will also assess the strategies your organization uses to safeguard patient information and how these promote a culture of safety. You will describe an area where improvement is needed and one strategy that could address the situation.

COMMENT 1(MAGEN N0V 9 7:47)

PLEASE I NEED A GOOD COMMENT BASED IN THIS ARGUMENY TO POST IN MY ONLINE CLASS

Professional organizations related to nursing are crucial for generating the energy, flow of ideas and the proactive work needed to help maintain a healthy profession that advocates what the clients and nurses need and the trust of the society (Matthews, 2012). Newsletters and bulletin alerts help keep members aware of issues and explain developments that could affect nurses and the delivery of care to patients. Everyone this day in age has many ways to communicate with one another. Because us nurses have all these ways of communicating, we can analyze information that is provided to us and be able to respond quickly (Matthews, 2012).

This day in age we have networking information-sharing features that help strengthen our ability to advocate for ourselves and nursing as a profession. This helps influence the development of policy and legislation. Because nurses are great advocates, we seek to influence policies by arguing within political systems and institutions for an idea that can lead to decisions that can promote nursing and healthcare (Matthews, 2012).

As nurses, we need to work together because we can get our voice heard more if we work in numbers, especially when it comes to legislative and introducing new policies. There are so many areas of communicating within organizations, that it is a good idea to be part of a nursing organization.
