Introduction:
I have come to a conclusion that batteries are a very useful source of energy as it provides us with the energy to turn on several things like light, toy cars, flash lights, remote control, clocks, etc. Batteries come in different types and sizes. For example alkaline batteries which are non rechargeable and high in density and have a long life span. The electrolyte used within this type of battery is potassium hydroxide, which is an alkaline. Another example would be zinc-carbon batteries, which are made from a composition of Cathode (carbon rod) surrounded by magnesium dioxide and carbon powder in order to increase conductivity. It is well known to have a long life span.
Statement Of Task:
Most double A batteries come in as 1.5 volts but are sold in different prices.
Battery company (1.5V) Price (QAR)
Energizer 6
Panasonic 0.25
Everyday 1.5
Duracell 3
In this experiment I would like to investigate if it actually worth putting in higher amounts of money for different types of batteries that say they “last longer” and I will do that by connecting a battery to a voltmeter, ammeter, and a light bulb and collecting the voltage each 10 minutes until the light bulb stops working and the battery stops working. I will then calculate the power by using
P = V x I
Methodology:
Variables:
Independent (changed): Battery company used
Dependent (measured): Power and voltage
Controlled:
What will be controlled Why and how
Ammeter The ammeter will stay the same to avoid any changes in the results, which might happen due to changing it and will be controlled by using the same exact one.
Voltmeter The voltmeter will be kept the same and not change to not cause any results changes, which could increase level of uncertainty.
Light bulb A higher current would drain the battery faster which means that keeping the light bulb the same would make the experiment more reliable
Wires Wires are kept the same for the sole purpose of having a reliable experiment.
Materials (Apparatus):
1. One light bulb
2. Four different companies of (AA) batteries: Energizer, Everyday, Panasonic, Duracell
3. Ammeter
4. Voltmeter
5. Two crocodile clips
6. Five leads wires
