Team, I will be in and out of town for the next two weeks making this team based project difficult.  Knowing this, I have spoken with our instructor and have secured the course announcements that pertain to our project.  I will be working ahead to ensure my availability does not interfere with the team’s grade.  This week we will need to research an individual from the company’s management structure.  It will be quite similar to our week three individual project.

“Week 9-Homework Help

The assignment this week is a lot like the research that you did in week three for the individual project.  You are asked to research someone influential within your chosen company.  This person needs to have a strong influence on the management and structure of your company.

  • The focus of this assignment is learning about the management practices of the company you chose for the course project.  That should be the focus of what you’re writing about.  This means picking out information on how they handle employees and the overall structure of the company.
  • Managers of your business and higher ups are great candidates for this project.  Students generally choose C level executives like a CEO.
  • Look for clues and questions they’ve answered on managing or leading employees.  Past interviews they’ve given are excellent sources of information.
  • Remember to write a short bio for your research topic, explain why they’re important to the management structure, and then summarize your findings.  These are the bare minimum of what is expected.
  • This should be in APA format and at least two pages.
  • Based on this information, I have put together another basic outline for the team.  With the wealth of information available on the CEO Howard Schultz, I assumed he would be the obvious choice for this part of the project. If this topic choice and layout works for everyone, please take over a section of this weeks project by replying with which section you would like to take.

Use this to write a paragraph or two about the topic and post just the text as a reply to the post titled “Week 9 Paragraphs. Once all of us have posted, we can copy and past the information in to one document and submit the assignment as we have before.

    Week 9 Basic Outline:

    1.      Short company intro (Adam mentioned that our current intro should include more information about why the company is interesting to a management student as a case study)

    2.      Howard Schultz  Starbucks’s current CEO, Howard Schultz, has been with the company since 1982 and has held various roles within the organization (Leadership Team, 2013).  Before joining Starbucks, he worked for several high profile companies.  He eventually became the general manager for a Swedish coffee drip manufacture by the name of Hammarplast and was responsible for their U.S. operations (Coffee King, 2010).  He formed a personal interest in Starbucks, who at the time was still a small company; he was particularly curious “as to why it ordered so many plastic cone filters” from his company (Minchom, 2013).  He first joined the company as director of marketing and soon after took an eye opening trip to Italy where he noticed the commonality of the coffee bars and their role as meeting places and their influence on the local culture (Coffee King, 2010).  He relayed his findings to the owners and began trying to influence the direction of the company towards this model. After several unsuccessful years of doing so, he left the organization to open his own company that filled this desired role within society.  After the success of his own company and the desire of the Starbucks ownership to pursue other endeavors, Schultz purchased Starbucks for 3.8 million dollars (Coffee King, 2010).  The continued success of Starbucks has helped make Mr. Schultz the 287th richest man in America, with an estimated net worth of $2 billion dollars, and placed him at #273 on the Forbes 400 list (Howard Schultz, 2014).
