I need a 2 paragraph post written on the following topic:

There are a number of tools that have been designed to help protect computer systems, and the data stored on them, from those with malicious intent. Choose from the following list of protection options: antivirus software, firewalls, encryption, strong passwords. Describe the tool you have chosen, the protection it provides, and research 2-3 of the most widely used products for the chosen option. Be sure to discuss the pros and cons for using the protection option you have selected. When responding to your classmates, try to respond to a student who wrote about a different tool than the one you chose.

I will also need a response written for each of the following peer posts.

1) one of the tools that I have chosen is a firewall. A Firewall is either Hardware or software or sometimes both installed in a computer or within the perihperal devices to protect the computer (client or server) and the end user from malicious attacks and data breaches. They scan incoming and outgoing communcations or packets to ensure the system is protected from malevolent intent. Some of the protection firewalls offer have to deal with how well computers are protected. imagine the last time you purchased something online through Amazon, Barnes and noble or any other E commerce website. These locations, stores and retailers store and log your information such as name, Address, phone numbers, credit card numbers, bank accounts, debit cards and even sometimes family names or groups of friends that you know. This information is private and secure, or so we think it should be. Firewalls prevent external forces like hackers, malicious code or certain viruses from penetrating those company systems and networks and stealing and using that information against the customers that trust in these systems.

Some of the most used products for using a firewall are Zone alarm firewall. This is normally one of the two most sought after firewalls to replace the Windows Firewall that is preinstalled on their products. It includes Better outbound protection, antiphishing guards and Zonealarms protection behavior. Another is Comodo. According to this article this is widely popular. This product does offer antivirus software and outgoing protection and a general firewall.

Some of the pros of using a firewall is pretty apparent. First, it offers general scanning software or hardware that scans those of outgoing and incoming communications. Second, depending on if this is for personal use, work, activities or school you will want to upgrade to protect ever increasingly more important information like SSN, BAnk accounts and personal info on customers. There are some disadvantages as sometimes the amount of scanning done by firewalls and over analyzing of incoming traffic. This can slow the throughput of the network forcing consumers to become impatient with the service.

2) There are quite a few options out there when it comes to virus protection and security for your computer and other devices. I have chosen McAfee Total Protection for my anti virus protection, not only for my laptop but I also take advantage of the share prescription option for my smart phone as well. I have always used McAfee since I first owned a computer and have found that this protection gives me what I need and is very user friendly. I receive warnings about unsafe websites, sensitive digital files and dangerous downloads and other risky actions that may be happening. I love the automatic scans that I can pre-set to run as I would like so I am aware right away of any problems. The great part about this is it also comes with Firewall protection as well (as do most). I have researched some of the other top virus protection software like Norton and Total AV and have not found that they offer anything more than McAfee does other than a higher price point. I have used this protection for so long and am comfortable with it that at this time I do not see the need to change it on my current system.

It seems as if most viruses out there are targeted for Windows operating systems, and some of these anti virus products are not perfect especially against Zero-day attacks ( attacks that target publicly known but still un-patched vulnerabilities). Because of this it is important to perform regular backups and have restore points as these attacks can sometimes pass right through anti virus software. I am in the process of purchasing a new computer and and contemplating using Windows Defender as it is already installed in Windows 8 or later operating systems. It’s free, it integrates with Windows updates to keep itself up-to-date, and you will not get bothered all of the time with requests to upgrade or renew.
