Focusing on the genres we’ve covered since midterm, choose a western, science fiction, mystery/suspense, film noir, gangster film, or musical we did not cover in class, and (in the same fashion as the Midterm Paper) situate it within the genre cycle where you think it best fits. While considering the progress and changes the genre went through over the years, discuss how and why your film’s attributes and tropes come across as belonging specifically to the primitive, classical, revisionist, or parodic phases, and relate your film to others which came before and/or after it in the cycle. Be sure to include specific examples of audiovisual tropes from key scenes of your choice to back up your argument. The Final Paper should be 1500–2000 words.
