I am required to write this personal essay to enter the university of my preference can someone help me proof read it and fix it please. Here is what I got:

Going to school in an American University abroad (John Cabot) would be a life changing experience that can only happen once in a lifetime for most of us. What better way to begin my studies in Classics than in one of the countries where a lot of these events occurred. As far back as my memory goes I can recall my mother telling me all those fantastic stories about the almighty gods, the brutal battles that took place, and of course about the tyrant emperors that reigned over Rome. All of this rich history that was passed down to me made my hunger for more knowledge grow, as well as my passion.

Traveling to another country, let alone another continent to study is still something that is very hard for me to swallow. Just imagining that I will be living surrounded by a variety of ancient buildings (the Foro Romano, the Anfiteatro Flavio, among others) is crazy to me. Not only will I be reading it & looking at the pictures from a textbook, but I will actually be experiencing it physically. Apart from that, I will have the chance to live like the Romans do by submerging myself into the culture, mastering the language, and of course learning the many customs there are.

As stated before, history one way or another has always been part of my life. I can still remember how my mother used to put me to bed & tell me all these great tales about Caligula claiming his horse consul, Medusa being punished with snakes on her head, and lots more. Just like our ancestors applied word of mouth to tell each other stories or the different events that occurred my mother did with me. As I got older going to the library and renting all the Greek/Roman mythology books that I could get my hands on was, and still to this day my favorite hobby.

Therefore, my wanting to obtain all the insight in this particular subject & dedicate the rest of my time passing it down to people with the same interest as me. It has not been an easy path to get to this point, but like most of the things in life they don’t come easy. Going through financial hardship and trying to balance school with bills/work is not a simple task while trying to finish up your studies. Now a bit older & with more experience behind my back I will be able to confront the obstacles in my path in a much stronger way.

Making the decision of going overseas to obtain my bachelor’s degree has been the biggest one I have ever done. Like many alumni I one day want to have the opportunity to tell others about the obstacles I had to battle to achieve my goals, and my experiences at John Cabot University. Other than that, I am really looking forward to meeting people from all over the world, absorbing as much knowledge as I can, and of course visiting as many places as my wallet allows me. Those are many of the reasons why I chose to study in an American University abroad.
