Movie discussion – GradSchoolPapers.com

Order Description
Since the start of the semester, we have discussed various ways in which a film can be transnational; in short, a transnational approach to
cinema involves considering how a film crosses borders in different and specific ways. Deborah Shaw’s typologies of transnational cinema in her
essay “Deconstructing and Reconstructing Transnational Cinema” are helpful in this respect with understanding how cinema can be transnational in
various ways.
In a 2 to 3 page essay, explain how Diarios de motocicleta/Motorcycle Diaries is transnational in at least TWO ways, ONE of which must examine
the clip that comes from the movie. The other way, or ways, in which the film is transnational can be at the level of the film’s production
(finances, directors, actors, etc.), exhibition (where the movie was shown upon release), or distribution.
Since the essay is limited to 3 pages, you will not be able to exhaustively discuss all the film’s transnational aspects. Instead, as intimated
above, it is strongly suggested that you use specific examples from the film or the film’s production, exhibition, or distribution. Students are
also strongly encouraged to allude to Shaw’s essay *when necessary* to support a point. Professor Risner has placed Shaw’s essay in its entirety
on Canvas under “Files.”
Finally, it is not necessary to devote half your paper to an analysis of the clip and half to some other aspect, or aspects, of the film’s
transnationalism. Instead, you may spend more time on the clip and less on another aspect, or aspects.
The clip from Diarios de motocicleta can be accessed via IU’s Swank viewing site by going through the IU Media Services website:

. Click on “Recommended Resources” and then click on “Swank Motion Pictures” and locate the

movie title by typing “Motorcycle Diaries” into the search window. The clip for the paper runs from 42:46-44:45.

Your paper should have the following:

the pagination specified above (not 1.5 pages);

size 12 and Times New Roman font with normal margins;

correct grammar and spelling;

a compelling title that goes beyond “Essay #1.” Consider formulating a title that will orient the reader to the content of your paper;

a thesis statement that presents an argument. “Diarios de motocicleta is a very transnational film” or “Diarios de motocicleta is very

interesting” are not compelling arguments;

secondary resources are not necessary for the analysis of the clip. However, in the case of production, distribution, and exhibition, you are

likely to need to cite some source to show how a film is transnational in that respect. Use MLA style for parenthetical references and a works

cited page. The works cited page does not count for the required pagination for the assignment. The MLA citation for Shaw’s essay is as follows:

Shaw, Deborah. “Deconstructing and Reconstructing ‘Transnational Cinema.’” Contemporary Hispanic Cinema: Interrogating the Transnational in

Spanish and Latin American Film, edited by Stephanie Dennison, Tamesis, 2013, pp. 47-66.

do not write a concluding paragraph. A concluding sentence, or two, is more appropriate for a paper this length;

avoid quote dropping. In other words, do not quote a secondary resource at length when another author’s words are not relevant to your argument.

Instead, use the words that are needed to support your idea;

you are encouraged to visit the IU Writing Center.

Discussion: Assessment Tools and Diagnostic Tests in Adults and Children

Discussion: Assessment Tools and Diagnostic Tests in Adults and Children

When seeking to identify a patient’s health condition, advanced practice nurses can use a diverse selection of diagnostic tests and assessment tools; however, different factors affect the validity and reliability of the results produced by these tests or tools. Nurses must be aware of these factors in order to select the most appropriate test or tool and to accurately interpret the results.

Not only do these diagnostic tests affect adults, body measurements can provide a general picture of whether a child is receiving adequate nutrition or is at risk for health issues. These data, however, are just one aspect to be considered. Lifestyle, family history, and culture-among other factors-are also relevant. That said, gathering and communicating this information can be a delicate process.

In this Discussion, you will consider the validity and reliability of different assessment tools and diagnostic tests. You will explore issues such as sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values. You will also consider examples of children with various weight issues. You will explore how you could effectively gather information and encourage parents and caregivers to be proactive about their children’s health and weight.

To prepare:

· Review this week’s learning resources and consider factors that impact the validity and reliability of various assessment tools and diagnostic tests. We will also review examples of pediatric patients and their families as it relates to BMI.

· This week you will be assigned one of the following DB by your instructor.

1. Select one of the following assessment tools or diagnostic tests to explore for the purposes of this Discussion:

§ Mammogram

§ Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test

§ Body-mass index (BMI) using waist circumference for adults

2. Select one of the examples on which to focus for this Discussion. What health issues and risks may be relevant to the child you selected?

§ Overweight 5-year-old boy with overweight parents

§ 5-year-old girl of normal weight with obese parents

§ Severely underweight 12-year-old girl with underweight parents

· Search the Walden Library and credible sources for resources explaining the tool or test you selected. What is its purpose, how is it conducted, and what information does it gather?

· What does the literature discuss regarding the validity, reliability, and are there any issues with sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, ethical dilemmas, and controversies related to the test or tool?

· Based on the risks you identified, consider what further information you would need to gain a full understanding of the child’s health. Think about how you could gather this information in a sensitive fashion.

· Consider how you could encourage parents or caregivers to be proactive toward the child’s health.

Post a description of how the assessment tool or diagnostic test you selected is used in health care. Based on your research, evaluate the test or the tool’s validity and reliability, and explain any issues with sensitivity, reliability, and predictive values. Include references in appropriate APA formatting.

OR

Post an explanation of the health issues and risks that are relevant to the child you selected. Describe additional information you would need in order to further assess his or her weight-related health. Taking into account the parents’ and caregivers’ potential sensitivities, list at least three specific questions you would ask about the child to gather more information. Provide at least two strategies you could employ to encourage the parents or caregivers to be proactive about their child’s health and weight.

Ruskin Manufacturing – GradSchoolPapers.com

Ruskin Manufacturing has guaranteed Parker Products that it will deliver the complete order of small machines by the 10th of the month, a Friday. Parker had already extended its deadline once. This time, it insists, the date must be met. Tim Vinson, head of quality control, had been confident the deadline would be met. But on the 8th he learns that a new component of the machines is in short supply. He thinks of several options:1. Approve breaking up and regrinding the remaining supply of the old component that was being replaced. This could probably be accomplished in time, but the speed at which it would have to be done raises concerns about impurities in the process.
2. Approve using the old component in place of the new one. The product would still function well, and it would be unlikely that Parker would ever detect the difference. Although Parker would not be getting exactly what it ordered, the product would meet minimal safety and durability standards.
3. Discuss the problem with the design engineer and see what he suggests. Which of these options would you recommend? Can you think of any other options that might be preferable?
II
Tim decides to consult with Chuck Davidson, the chief design engineer for this product. Chuck says, “I don’t have a good answer for you. There’s no time to come up with a completely satisfactory alternative. You could regrind, but given the time frame you might get a lot of impurities. Or you could just use the old components. But I’m not going to advise either of those. I don’t want this hanging over my head. Maybe you should call Arnold.” Arnold Peterson is Vice President of Product Engineering. Years ago, like Tim Vinson, Arnold served as head of quality control. Tim is somewhat uneasy about calling Arnold for two reasons. First, Tim feels responsible for not seeing the problem earlier, and he is reluctant to admit failure to the Vice President of Product Engineering. Second, he wonders if Arnold would really want to be bothered by something like this. He might simply tell Tim that the problem is his to solve — somehow. Still, Tim is not comfortable with the idea of just resolving the problem by himself. What should Tim do next?
III (Version 1)
Hesitant to take matters in his own hands, Tim calls Arnold. Consider three possible scenarios:
a. Arnold says, “You’re supposed to take care of these things yourself, Tim. I don’t want to hear about stuff like this. Just meet the deadline. I used to have to deal with this kind of problem all the time. Management made it very clear to me that it doesn’t want bad news- -it wants results.” What should Tim do now?
b. Arnold says, “Look Tim, you haven’t been at this very long. Parker doesn’t want to hear about this. If something goes wrong with the product, they don’t want to have to tell their customers that they knew about the problem. They’ll want to point the finger at us. They also made it very clear that we’ve had it if we don’t meet the deadline this time. I don’t like this kind of situation, but we’ve got to take a little risk here. Just get the stuff over there somehow.” What should Tim do now?
c. Tim learns that Arnold is out of town until next week and cannot be reached. What should Tim do now?
III (Version 2)
Tim decides not to call Arnold. He thinks Arnold would not want to be bothered by this problem and would simply tell Tim that it is up to him to resolve it in such a way that a major customer is not disappointed. So, he approves substituting the old component in place of the new one. Several weeks later Arnold learns from an internal source that Tim substituted the old component. He calls Tim into his office and asks for an explanation. What should Tim say?
IV Following III (Version 1)
Tim approves substituting the old component, and the order is met on time. However, several months later Parker returns to Ruskin several of the machines from the order Tim completed. Parker complains that the machines in this part of the order are not functioning as efficiently as the others. When a Parker technician dissembled several of the less efficient machines and compared them with one that was working well, she discovered that each of the less efficient ones has a key component that differs from the well functioning machine. Parker asks for an explanation. Word now comes to Tim that he is expected to appear at a meeting with Arnold Peterson and a Parker representative. What should he be prepared to say at the meeting?
V
Suppose Tim substitutes the old component for the new one, and neither Parker nor anyone else outside of Ruskin ever finds out. All parties are satisfied. Does it follow that Tim acted appropriately?
